Life In The Pond with Arlene Olivero

Arlene Olivero came to our camp to teach us about Macroinvertebrates that live in the ponds and rivers of Alewife Reservation. We looked at different samples of Macroinvertebrates to see which ones matched the pictures we were given of them. Then we looked into what kinds of waters they live in and the levels of pollution each group can tolerate. For example, the Stonefly Larva is very sensitive to polluted waters versus the Aquatic Sowbug which can tolerate polluted waters. In order to identify which organism was which, I looked at its head and the number of tails it had. Then I wrote down a description and drew a model and compared my observations to the descriptions and models on the key.
